Driving an electric car is cheaper in some parts of Canada than others siro, 11/09/2024 Science, Health & Technology Feb 29, 2024 | For more information, contact Lou Corpuz-Bosshart Electric vehicles are a critical part of Canada’s climate strategy, but a new UBC study highlights how it’s cheaper in some regions than others to drive electric—making it more challenging for certain households to make the switch. Location, location, location The researchers analyzed how far people need to drive their electric car to break even on the costs, factoring in the impacts of tax rebates and tax rates, charging costs, typical distance households travel in a region, and electricity costs—all of which vary from region to region. They found Quebec had the biggest advantage, followed by BC and Manitoba, while Nunavut came up last. “In Quebec, an electric car owner must travel at least 46 kilometers per day to come out ahead in comparison with owning a traditional car. In Nunavut, this number rises to 180 kilometers,” says study author Bassam Javed, a PhD candidate at the Institute for Resources, Environment and Sustainability (IRES). Small is beautiful These results suggest that if you’re looking to make the switch to electric, choosing a smaller, basic EV can realize more savings than a luxury electric car, says study … Continue Reading

What’s behind the rapid increase in car insurance rates siro, 20/08/2024 (CNN) – A lot has changed since Gerald Ford was president and Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak founded Apple. But here’s something that hasn’t changed much: the pace at which car insurance rates are rising. Car insurance rates were up almost 21% for the 12 months ended in February, according to new Consumer Price Index data released Tuesday. The last time car insurance rates rose that much on an annual basis was in 1976, not counting January, which saw the same annual rate increases. The rise in car insurance rates alone contributed half a percentage point to the overall 3.2% inflation rate last month. It represents one of many obstacles standing in the way of the Federal Reserve’s 2% inflation goal and continues to be a pain point for Americans struggling with some of the highest prices in decades. A confluence of factors is behind the trend. Rising car repair costs The cost to repair a car is up 6.7% for the year, according to CPI data. That’s a much slower rate compared to recent years. But it’s still much more expensive compared to before the pandemic, said Tim Zawacki, principal research analyst at S&P Global Market Intelligence. Contributing to … Continue Reading
Euro Car Parts charts significant online shift due to real-time tracking siro, 19/08/2024 Euro Car Parts has reported a 40 per cent increase in its online sales in the last 12 months, as more garages switch to ordering parts digitally. The automotive parts supplier hit a quarter of a million online orders in August alone – delivered through its Omnipart website and through integration with garage management systems (GMS) including Carsys, MAM’s Autowork Online, GarageHive and Techman. The growth in online sales can partly be attributed to real-time order tracking, which enables garages to track their order from the moment it is placed until delivered, helping technicians to use their time efficiently. Other benefits of ordering through Omnipart include Haynes Pro integration, which gives technicians access to installation guides and timings, as well as a Service Kit Builder – a simple way to identify all of a vehicle’s service parts in one click. To encourage more garages to embrace digitalisation and realize its benefits, LKQ Euro Car Parts offers priority fulfillment and can deliver 85% of orders within an hour to most of the UK and Ireland. Kevan Wooden, chief commercial officer at LKQ Euro Car Parts, said: “We’ve made major investments in our online ordering process to create fantastic market-leading, last-mile expedition.… Continue Reading
Factory-fit Ford Ranger and Everest accessories to reduce wait times siro, 13/08/2024 Ford has doubled down on its efforts to reduce delivery delays in Australia by establishing a new ‘vehicle personalization centre’ in Thailand, where popular genuine accessories will be ‘factory fitted’ within two days of a Ranger or Everest rolling off the nearby production line. The center will initially offer two variants of the stylish canopy, a commercial canopy and a manual roller shutter before expanding its operation down the track with more accessories and responsibility for future special-edition Ford Ranger and Everest models. Ford Australia says fitting accessories immediately after a vehicle rolls off the production line will reduce delivery times on its two most popular models by avoiding frequent time-sapping dealer installations and making better use of idle time before shipping. The center is being run in collaboration with Ford’s F-150 remanufacturing partner RMA Automotive and is located near the port where the vehicles depart for Australia, meaning the accessories can essentially be installed en route to the docks. “The new vehicle personalization center (VPC) is the next step at giving our customers the customized vehicles they want, straight out of the box,” said Ford International Markets Group vehicle personalization director, Michael Karageorgiou. “The VPC will complement the Ford … Continue Reading
