California, Stellantis strikes vehicle emissions deal siro, 25/08/2024 By David Shepardson WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Chrysler parent Stellantis and the state of California reached an agreement on emissions on Tuesday after the company unsuccessfully sought to join a deal that other automakers had struck with the state in 2019. Under the agreement announced by the state and the company, Stellantis will comply with California’s zero-emissions, light-duty vehicle sales requirements through 2030 even if the state cannot enforce its rules. In addition, the company will not oppose California’s authority under the Clean Air Act for its greenhouse gas emissions and zero-emission vehicle standards. Ford, Honda, Volkswagen and BMW struck a voluntary agreement with California in 2019 on reducing vehicle emissions and Volvo Cars, owned by China’s Geely, joined soon afterward. Stellantis in December challenged the state’s prior refusal to allow it to join the agreement, and said it had been forced to cut some work in Michigan and Ohio at two SUV plants, citing California emissions regulations. Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares said on Tuesday the agreement “will avoid 10 to 12 million metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions over the lifetime of the agreement and will also allow our US customers to fully benefit from our advanced technologies.” The agreement … Continue Reading
Fierce rivals Honda and Nissan join forces to take on Chinese car makers siro, 18/08/2024 Rival Japanese car makers Honda and Nissan have announced they will work together to develop electric vehicle (EV) technology and auto intelligence – two sectors where Japan’s automakers have fallen behind. The partnership could help the two manufacturers develop economies of scale in producing EVs, as automakers face heavy competition from firms such as Elon Musk’s Tesla and Chinese manufacturer BYD. The announcement by the two arch-rival firms has been described by experts as an attempt to catch up with EV competitors, particularly from China, after years of Japanese car companies focusing on hybrid vehicles. The two companies have signed a non-binding memorandum of understanding.(Kyodo News via AP) Why are Honda and Nissan working together? Nissan was an early pioneer in electric vehicles, with its all-electric Leaf model released in 2010. But it has … Continue Reading

According to Getcha, an online car sale platform, on Monday, more than half of imported car models were offering discounts of 10 percent or more. Among the 898 models offered by 17 major import carmakers, including BMW Group, Mercedes-Benz AG, and Audi AG Co., 461 models are being sold at discounts of 10 percent or more. California signs deal with Stellantis to uphold vehicle emissions rules siro, 16/08/2024 California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) announced on Tuesday that top automaker Stellantis has agreed to abide by the Golden State’s strict emissions rules, regardless of decisions made by a future federal administration. Through this partnership, Stellantis — the parent corporation for Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram and others — has pledged to comply with California’s zero-emissions light-duty vehicle sales requirements through 2030 and make significant investments in charging infrastructure. The automotive giant has agreed to abide by the California Air Resources Board’s (CARB) light-duty vehicle sales mandates “even if CARB is unable to enforce its standards as a result of judicial or federal action,” a statement from the agency said. In other words, if a potential Trump administration were to decide to repeal CARB’s emissions rules, Stellantis would continue to maintain these standards nonetheless. “The biggest and most influential companies in the world understand that this is how we can fight climate change together,” Newsom said in a Tuesday statement. “It’s another example of the private sector joining California to help millions of people get clean vehicles,” the governor added. In entering the deal with the State of California, Stellantis joined four other automakers — Ford, Honda, BMW of North America … Continue Reading
Bentley delays electric vehicle rollout siro, 09/08/2024 Bentley will delay the launch of its first pure electric vehicles (EV) by a year, and now plans on having an electric-only range by 2033, instead of the earlier target of 2030. Speaking at a press conference after announcing the brand’s 2023 results, Adrian Hallmark, Bentley CEO, told press including Automotive News Europe and Autocarit’s now planning on introducing its first EV towards the end of 2026 with deliveries starting in 2027. The original Beyond 100 plan announced back in 2020 called for Bentley’s first EV to be launched in 2025. This would then be followed by a further four EVs, with one being launched per year until 2030, at which point the brand would become electric only. Those subsequent EVs have been delayed too, and Bentley doesn’t expect to do without internal combustion engines until 2033 now. According to Mr Hallmark, the company’s first EV will be an “incremental model” built at its factory in Crewe, UK. Introducing a new model with no direct predecessor is less of a “gamble” and there’s less pressure on the car. With its reset targets, Mr Hallmark claimed Bentley’s electric development budget and timelines were now “locked and loaded”. Mr Hallmark said … Continue Reading
Maker of Jeep, Dodge and Ram vehicles to follow California’s strict emissions standards siro, 06/08/2024 SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — Stellantis, one of the largest automakers in the world, agreed Tuesday to comply with California’s vehicle emissions standards that are the toughest in the nation and require zero-emission and plug-in hybrid vehicles to make up 68% of new light -duty vehicle sales by 2030. The move by the company that makes vehicles for Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep was seen as a boost to Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom‘s ambitious policies to curb global warming. The Biden administration restored the state’s authority to set its own tailpipe pollution standards for cars in 2022 after former President Donald Trump‘s decision to revoke California’s authority to set its own limits on auto emissions. It was one of Trump’s most high-profile actions to roll back environmental rules he considered too burdensome on businesses. Stellantis now joins four big automakers — Ford, Honda, Volkswagen and BMW – that agreed to follow California’s rules in 2019. The Trump administration then launched an antitrust investigation of those companies, but eventually closed it after failing to find any wrongdoing. Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares called Tuesday’s agreement “a win-win solution that is good for the customer and good for the planet” in a statement.… Continue Reading
