California, Stellantis strikes vehicle emissions deal Zainal Abidin, 25/08/2024 By David Shepardson WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Chrysler parent Stellantis and the state of California reached an agreement on emissions on Tuesday after the company unsuccessfully sought to join a deal that other automakers had struck with the state in 2019. Under the agreement announced by the state and the company, Stellantis will comply with California’s zero-emissions, light-duty vehicle sales requirements through 2030 even if the state cannot enforce its rules. In addition, the company will not oppose California’s authority under the Clean Air Act for its greenhouse gas emissions and zero-emission vehicle standards. Ford, Honda, Volkswagen and BMW struck a voluntary agreement with California in 2019 on reducing vehicle emissions and Volvo Cars, owned by China’s Geely, joined soon afterward. Stellantis in December challenged the state’s prior refusal to allow it to join the agreement, and said it had been forced to cut some work in Michigan and Ohio at two SUV plants, citing California emissions regulations. Niki Lauda’s ‘significant’ Porsche 910 sports car is up for sale Zainal Abidin, 15/02/202428/03/2024 The image of F1 legend Niki Lauda is indelibly linked with several instantly recognizable grand prix cars: iconic red crash helmet on, laser-focused eyes ahead in the cockpit of the Ferrari 312T, the McLaren MP4/2 and even the Brabham BT46B fan car. Before his grand prix glory days though, Lauda cut his early competitive teeth in a whole range of diverse racing machinery, from an Opel Rekord to a BMW 1602 – but the standout car was a truly significant one in Porsche’s history. The 910 prototype piloted by Lauda at the 1969 Österreichring 1000km in a one-off appearance represented “a stepping stone” towards its all-conquering 917 and 956/962s, and now that very example the three-time world champion drove (001, made in 1966) is going up for sale – for $2.2m (£1.7m).
